More in the Kimberley
Magic Broome! What a relief after a dusty crusty week in the Kimberley!
After quarantine, we spent a few days with friends on their bush block in Kununurra. We visited Butterfly Cave, held tree snakes from its crevices and found ancient indigenous grind stones. Husband managed to hook a generous barramundi in the lower Ord we've been feasting on since. He couldn't wipe the smile off his face! We spent days in dust at El Questro, shade-seeking and exploring gorges, water holes and springs to cool off in. The four wheel driving and opportunity for water crossings were some compensation for having to bypass the Gibb for him.
It turns out consuming water from crowded hot springs filled with travellers is hazardous for health. Princess spent days fevered, dehydrating and miserable and once again our plans were ditched.
We managed a wonderful trip into the Bungle Bungles while she spent the day with her grandparents but from then on we stopped hourly and woke with her through each night till we worried for her safety and high tailed it to Broome hospital. By the time we arrived she was beginning to emerge from her languid state; complaining loudly about the taste of hydralite. A slighter version of her former self but thankfully beginning to recover.
