We spend a little too long in our warm beds for sunrise. Still, our early start is rewarded as we climb in the soft early morning sunshine, surrounded by fields of lilac blooms and firework sprays of shimmering cream and dusky green. We are almost alone in the stillness. Every turn reveals a new roughly-sculptured golden wonder. Ancient sand dunes bedded down into stone.
Kings Canyon rim walk is an ambitious goal for me. It's been a very long time since I've walked this far but somehow the pleasure in it's beauty sustains me. Even Princess surprises us with the help of a collection of non- nutritious treats taken at regular intervals and various creative distractions.
